Doors of Paris: Where to Find the Most Beautiful Parisian Doors

The city of Paris is known for its beauty, grand monuments, museums and buildings but it also has some of the most spectacular doorways and entrances.

There are thousands of doors that line the streets of the French city, some so simple you walk straight past but others are extravagant works of art.

As you walk around the captivating capital you will discover many different door styles, from Gothic to Renaissance and Haussmann to Art Nouveau styles.

If you’re interested in seeing some of these stunning doorways, here’s your guide to the most beautiful doors of Paris.

Petit Palais

There’s no question that one of the most incredible entrances in Paris is that of Petit Palais.

This art museum is located in the 8th arrondissement and displays many masterpieces. The front entrance is like something out of a fairytale, a towering gold gate as if built for a king.

It’s not just the exterior that’s pretty either, the interior garden is blooming especially during spring and with the permanent exhibition being free there’s no reason to miss this museum.

Lavirotte

The architect Jules Lavirotte constructed some of the most fabulous doorways in Paris.

If you head to 29 Avenue Rapp in the 7th arrondissement, you’ll find an intricate Art Nouveau masterpiece that won a façade award due to its lavish design.

Just around the corner, you’ll find another one of his fantastic entryways at 3 Square Rapp in the 7th arrondissement. This door was considered to be his favourite as this was the door to his family home.

His first building built in 1899 is located at 151 rue de Grenelle. This Art Nouveau house also has a famous door known for its lizard door handles one of which is eating corn on the cob.

Eglise Saint-Etienne-du-Monte

This church in Paris, which is located on the Montagne Sainte-Genevieve in the 5th arrondissement, is home to the shrine of St. Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris.

It has an iconic purple façade that is often recognised for its appearance in Woody Allen’s movie Midnight Paris.

Rue de Braque

In the 3rd arrondissement at 8bis rue de Braque you’ll find a famous blue door that was the entrance to the former house of the Trudaine family. The home of Daniel-Charles Trudaine, French administrator and civil engineer.

He was one of the primary developers of the French road system but is most well-known for the monumental Atlas de Trudaine that was made under his direction.

The Louvre

Perhaps one of the most famous entrances in Paris is that of The Louvre.

The museum, which is the world’s largest art museum, actually has three main entrances but the most popular is the pyramid as many want to admire the contemporary creation before entering. This grand metal and glass pyramid is the tip of a large underground extension and was built to provide the museum with a state of the art entrance wing.

Millions of people flock to this entryway every year to ogle at the glistening structure and capture the moment.

Now it’s time for you to find your perfect front door.
